Hello people!
God, I really suck at keeping up, that's for sure. Then again, I lead the most boring life on the planet, so not much has changed. ha ha Anyway, this past weekend was a whirlwind of activity compared to my normal weekends.
Saturday evening, I met my best friend from high school, Dani, for dinner in Washington, PA. Her husband had company over and it was more testosterone than she cared to deal with. So we went to Max & Erma's for dinner and talked non-stop for about three hours. We don't get to see each other much anymore, what with work and her hubs/kids, so it was nice to visit.
Then I came home and about an hour later, my mom arrived. She usually comes down for the weekend about once a month and we do stuff around my house like paint and whatnot. So we stayed up late chatting and then got up early to be productive! And productive we were. We got a ton of little things done that I needed help with, like hanging pictures. I have no patience for doing stuff like that 'properly', so anything I hang always looks like a monkey has been swinging from it. HA!
After we were productive, we went into town to meet my friend and go to the movies. We saw "Taken" and it was very good! We were a little late, so we had to sit a bit too close. Which was fine, except for the car chases. Those were a little sick-making up close. But we all enjoyed the movie very much.
Then we went to the Olive Garden for dinner. And ate way.too.much. I had fettucine alfredo, my friend had lasagna, and my mom had the mezzaluna shrimp. And then dessert. Yummy!

The Random Association meme:
Ask me to associate you with five things. When I do this, post this meme and an explanation of your interest in those five things in your journal.
Meg gave me these:
1. dragonflies
2. irish rover! :D
3. road trips
4. monaboyd
5. conventions
1. The dragonfly thing started because of Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" series. I was way involved in a message board for the books back then and the dragonfly was sort of an on-going motif. Since I've always liked them anyway, I ended up adopting it as my own symbol and I use it all the time. As well as have a tattoo of one on my ankle.
2. The Irish Rover is an awesome restaurant in Louisville. I have been there twice with my wonderful Meg and loved it both times. Foodie that I am, I have actually dreamed about the Welsh Rarebit sandwich from there. Although basically a glorified grilled cheese, it is to die for. If you're in Louisville, GO THERE. You won't regret it.
3. I adore road-tripping. There's just something about getting in the car and going somewhere that makes me feel invincible! Good thing I enjoy it, since most of my friends don't live all that close to me. You wanna road-trip? I'm your girl!
4. My original OTP was Billy and Dom. I still adore them, although there isn't much out there of either of them these days. The pre-Oscar pics that surfaced over the weekend, though, those were awesome. There's just something special about two people who connect so deeply and whose connection is so obvious to anyone who cares to look. I can just picture them still being best buddies when they're little old men.
5. Even though the rational part of my brain knows they're way more expensive than they should be, I love conventions. I have been to three LOTR cons and one Supernatural con. And as much as it's nice meeting stars, the best part for me is getting to meet the regular people and be able to put faces with names. Without cons, I wouldn't have some of the coolest friends I've ever had including Meg, Erin, and Beth who I met at my very first LOTR con when I was shy and backward and could barely say hello to strangers.
And last but not least, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my most very favorite Theresa,
laerwen. I hope your day is great, darlin'!
Please picture a cupcake here, because LJ will not let me into my scrapbook. *shakes fist*

Date: 2009-02-23 06:02 pm (UTC)Oh god, I loved those books. I'm about due for a re-read. Or, you know, I could actually read Breathe of Snow & Ashes since I've not yet done so. But Jamie & Claire's early story is so much more compelling.

Date: 2009-02-24 05:08 pm (UTC)It really, really is. There's nothing like finding a whole new group of friends and being able to geek out with them about fannish stuff.
And yes, you too! I thought about listing all the wonderful people I've met at cons and then realized that would have been half as long as this post. I've been so lucky to meet such great people.
