Everyone was posting pics of their ink on Sunday and I didn't have access to the camera. So I'm posting mine now.

My first two--the smaller rose was first, then the larger one about a year later. I wanted something 'classic', but now I think they are boring. I'm planning to ask my artist to draw something custom for me to go around it or with it or something. Suggestions accepted! Also, damn, I didn't realize how much these need color until I took these photos. Anyway, this is on my right inner ankle.

This one is on my left inner ankle. It was custom drawn for me and it also needs recolored, because it used to look 'iridescent'. The original colors were purple and blue and white, now it appears to be mostly blue. *frowns*

My newest, done last June. Again, drawn custom for me. I wanted the triple goddess, but I wanted to fancy it up a little. I love how it turned out. And yes, I have square 'Barney Rubble' feet; I hate them.
And there you have 'em. I was told once that tatts are addictive. I would totally agree with that, because every time I get one, I start thinking about the next one. I want at least three more.

Date: 2008-02-05 02:58 pm (UTC)I know exactly what you mean! I think that's why they end up being addictive, because there are so many cool designs. Having a good artist is key. I gave Patty the basis (goddess design) and she ran with it and had three examples of 'fancy' to pretty it up. I went with a combo of two of the three.
I want something celtic as my next one, a knot or triskelon probably. Possibly mixed with some Elvish.
Do you have something in mind yet?

Date: 2008-02-05 03:28 pm (UTC)I kinda like the idea of the 'goddess'-themed, tho...so I might check into that. (I just made a post of some links for my reference, mostly.)
And no, I hadn't seen it when we were together...I think you told me about it, but you never took your shoes off and showed me. Very pretty, tho.
Feel free to check my links, if you want...heavily Celtic influenced. :-D

Date: 2008-02-05 03:51 pm (UTC)I'm Irish, Italian, Scots, and German--that'd have to be a helluva tatt to cover all those! ha ha But I primarily identify as Irish, because those are the symbols that speak to me.
I have always been fascinated by the moon, even before I moved towards pagan ideology. So the idea of moon=goddess really appealed to me. And when I saw the triple, I had to have it.

Date: 2008-02-05 03:38 pm (UTC)When I got it done, this guy who had tatts all over was like, "ooh, on the foot, doesn't that hurt????" But really it was no worse than any other place, I don't think.

I think the design in your icon would make an amazing tatt, actually.

Date: 2008-02-05 04:23 pm (UTC)Yep, she did exactly what I would have done if I were the least bit 'art' inclined. I gave her the base symbol and said 'make it pretty'. She did one with just the green swirls, one with the little flowers and one with ivy-ish leaves.
When I looked at them, I said 'oh, I wish I could have the flowers AND the green swirlies' and she said, OK. Drew it out in like five minutes and we were good to go! She chose the colors too, since I was dithering around and couldn't decide.

Date: 2008-02-05 04:25 pm (UTC)I love it too. I love that Patty (my chosen tattoo artist) could take my demand to 'make it pretty' and come up with something so beautiful.

Date: 2008-02-05 05:06 pm (UTC)If given free reign, I'd be nearly covered with tattoos. But for now, I'll just have to imagine my next one.

Date: 2008-02-05 05:20 pm (UTC)I don't know if I'd be completely covered, because I like to see them. But yeah, one seems to beget another for me.

Date: 2008-02-05 05:55 pm (UTC)Honestly, it hurts at first no matter where it is. Once a few minutes have passed though, it sort of goes numb and a good artist will keep you distracted.
Also, it depends on your personal pain tolerance. To me, it feels like a really bad sunburn.

Date: 2008-02-05 06:05 pm (UTC)You're quite right in that they're addictive... there's one which I wanted to get for years. However when I went to NZ and knew I had to get a tattoo to commemorate the trip, it of course had to be LotR related... I did show it to you in Fulda, right?! It's sooooo gorgeous, there are still times when I just have to stroke it and just looking at it makes me want to get another one. So my "original" tattoo idea is still waiting to be done, and it may have to wait another while, because when I make it back to NZ I will have to add another NZ/LotR related tattoo...

Date: 2008-02-05 06:08 pm (UTC)I love the idea of commemorating a major trip like that with a tattoo. Such a cool idea. My friend Beth did that the first time she went to Germany for RingCon.

Date: 2008-02-05 08:55 pm (UTC)Aren't feet like, the grossest thing ever? I mean, even 'nice' feet are kinda gross. I know lots of people with monkey toes, though. I think if your second toe is longer, it's supposed to mean you are smart.
