ELF in Secaucus, NJ
Jul. 31st, 2006 08:11 pmOk, so my last totally squeeful post about Billy Boyd was brought to you by the fact that I went to the ELF Convention in Secaucus, NJ. I had never been to a con before and I had no idea what to expect or even if the ton of $ I spent would be worth it.
IT SO TOTALLY WAS! And I really, really want to do it again. In fact, I was really sad that it was over. So anyway, I dragged my poor non-Ringer friend with me and I'm sure she was just really, really puzzled by the whole weekend. "Uh, that man is dressed as that Hobbit guy (Frodo)?" Poor love, I think she was really afraid she was going to have to revive me yesterday morning.
And why is that, you ask? Well, because I talked to Billy Boyd, sillies! I shelled out the extra for the celebrity brunch and Billy came round and talked to all the tables. I was at the shy folks table, and so no one was really talking to Billy. So he asked where everyone was from and looked right at me. So I said "West Virginia" and his response was "mountain mama, right?" with a cute little grin. So then he talked about missing Jack and that he was going to LA to see Dom and work on their film. Then I asked him if there was any more info on his CD project with his band. And he said they've been in the studio and have cut some rough tracks. So that was really cool, because even if other people have asked the question, it was still something "current" and not something he's already heard tons of times.
Then his talk later was so hilarious! "There's a hazard, here", "I know way too much about this man (Dom)", "I'm enjoying changing the baby's nappies, well, I don't they stink, but..." So much other stuff.
And THEN, I met the awesomest girlies EVAR!
waqaychay,
aire_blair,
closet_hobbit, and
writer_in_black are all totally cool people and everyone should meet them! I really wish I wasn't a backward, shy doofus, because I totally would have hooked up with them earlier in the weekend if I wasn't. Next time, eh girls? Can't wait to get to know them all better, besides M, who I already "knew".
And THEN, because I was with the Cool Girls (tm), I was able to meet Erin Gray, who was totally my girlhood idol. I loved, loved, loved her on Buck Rogers. And now, apparently, she is Billy's manager in LA. So
aire_blair recognized her and asked one of the Creation Entertainment guys if we could meet her when she was done with her official stuff. So she came out, talked to us, shook hands, and let us all take photos. Awesome ending to a great weekend of Rings stuff.
My long-suffering friend and I then took the Amtrak to Washington, DC to do some other sightseeing stuff there before we go home. Her reward for going with me, cos she loves DC. So now we're having gyros and baklava for dinner and my tired patootie is going to bed.
More about the rest of the trip later!

Date: 2006-08-01 12:40 am (UTC)It sounds like fun except for the Secausus part. Too bad the convention wasn't this coming weekend as tomorrow I am headed to NJ to visit family (20 minutes from Secausus at most).
Glad you had a great time though! :)

Date: 2006-08-01 01:32 am (UTC)Oh, I KNOW! I saw that you were going to be in NJ right after I left and was sad. :(
Secaucus was fine, except that we had to take a taxi from Penn Station (because we are dumb and didn't research first) which was a startling $50 and over an hour drive (twas rush hour, dontcha know)
How was Lumos?

Click Starfest 2006 and look at the past conventions. We're the oldest, biggest, most successful general sci-fi fantasy convention in the USA, and we are FAN RUN, not associated with Creation in any way.
"there's a hazard here!"
