Can I assume this is a regional thing?

It is a regional thing, yes. In fact, even though I'm only about 60 miles south of where I grew up, I never heard of it until I came here. So it's very, very local. Usually it is thinned bleu cheese dressing--sometimes by itself, sometimes mixed with ranch. On hot, salty fries, it is YUMMY!
