Five degrees this morning, people. Five! F-I-V-E. Let me just share that if I wanted to live in Antarctica, I'd be there not here, dammit.

Photographic proof of the ridiculousness:

Pretty, but OMG, I so can't deal. And I have to worry about being beheaded every morning.

Right outside my front door. Of course, the snow does cover up the flower pots that never got taken in the house, that's a plus.

Yes, that would be 18 inches of snow on either side of the walkway. And no, I don't shovel--usually I just sweep enough out of my way to get to the car.

ION, it's Friday and it's payday, so that's always good. Talk to me, peeps--s'up?

Y'know, I don't mind the snow. But I can't stand for it to go much below freezing. Even though I'm well-insulated *snort*, I don't handle that kind of cold very well. Come to think of it, I don't handle heat well either. *is delicate flower*

Whatcha doin' for the weekend?

I've been reading Blood Brothers--I really like it so far, Cal and Quinn just met.

Weekend? Eh, usual stuff, laundry, put the rest of the xmas stuff away, food shopping, trying not to kill the kids...Martin has guard duty so it's all on me during the day. (oh joy...not!)

I'm almost done with it...and dying for the next part! Cal and Quinn get along...rather nicely, if ye catch my drift. ;-D

See, this is the norm in winter up here, so I'm all ::shrugs:: it ought to be cold, it's January. It's funny how you just get used to whatever your weather is on average, eh? The other night it was -20, which is -4F, and it was just kind of like, sigh, yep.

It IS funny. Like when we were in Germany for RingCon, I was wearing shorts because I thought it was warm and all the native Germans were wearing coats and scarves and such.

The problem here is that in the last twenty or so years, we've gone from having quite mild winters (30-40°F) to having really cold (near 0°F). And stubborn people like me never think to buy an appropriate winter coat. *shakes head at self*

Whatchoo doing this weekend, my Pip?

Oh, sounds like you're doing ALL the fun stuff! Me as well--that laundry mountain never seems to get smaller, even though there is only one of me. *shudders to think of having family-laundry*

That's the only bad (but not really) thing about Nora's books--they leave you craving more! I really liked the Garden ones (Lily, Rose, can't remember) and couldn't wait for each of them to come out.

Pics like that remind me why I moved to sunny southern California. I know we got our own weather problems out here but at least they don't usually consume us months at a time. I like to be able to grab a windbreaker at most and go.

Maybe build a fire if you have a fireplace? That always made me feel cozy when the weather was at its worst.

Alas, no fireplace. I've considered getting one of those freestanding ones they sell at Lowe's, though. Would be perfect for this kind of weather.

But I do have snuggly flannel sheets and a down comforter--so I intend to curl up in my bed and read, probably all weekend!

Hope you had good holidays, sweetie!

Sup, Princess!

We've got a bit of snow here too, but the worst is really the wind. It wouldn't be so bad if it was just snow a bit of cold, but the wind goes through anything, rattles the house and almost pushed me off the road today - and apparently it's going to be worse this weekend.

Thank god the winter only lasts four months!

How long do you think the snow will last in your town?

Well, the joke about where I live is that there are two seasons: winter and July. But really, it won't last all that long. That's the weird thing, it'll be really cold for a couple days, then warm back up to springtime temps. That's what makes it harder, I think, because you never know what to expect.

Sometimes I think the wind never stops blowing at my house. So I know what you mean there.

Are you having a good new year so far? How are plans for Scotland coming?

*g* Sounds like what many tourists think Norway is like - winter ten months of the year, and two months for the three other seasons.

We've had it much like that the past few years, and either warm or cold weather would be fine with me, but the constant changes are really tiring. I'd like to know what I'll get.

Thanks for asking! :) It's a pretty good year so far:) I have to get up at 5.10am, which isn't exactly fun, but you know, you get used to it. The Scotland trip is coming along fine, I'll have to get tickets, and send in the acceptance of an accommodation offer, and after that, I don't think there'll be all that much I can do from here. Well, aside from give them even more money, for the deposit ><.

How's your year then? Are you doing well so far?

Yep, I always picture Norway as being cold.

I get up at 5:30 AM, so I feel your pain there. But yeah, you do get used to it eventually. And I sleep in on the weekend, even though they say you shouldn't do that. It seems to work OK for me.

My year (what there's been of it) has been quite nice so far, really. I don't really make major plans for new year's eve, so that was quiet. And this is a pretty slow time at work as well, so it gives me time to catch up on things. All in all, pretty good!

The summers can be really warm though, up to 28 C where I live, and higher in other places (that would be 82.4F - and I don't know what you're used to, but it's quite warm enough for me!)

I do too, but I shouldn't because I do have trouble when the Monday comes. I try to get up early, but I'm an idiot and spend way too much time puttering about before I go to bed.

Don't think I'll be doing that tonight though, I'm knackered.

Thank you so much about the job! I am going to do everything short of begging, and hell I may even beg, to get the job. It would be so good for me and wanting to do graphic design for a career.

Ooooh! Look at how pretty! We don't get much snow around here, but I miss it from time to time. We have below freezing temperatures, 45 mile/hour wind and no snow. If it's that damn cold, there should be snow! At least then I would get something out of it. Because this area doesn't get much snow, it only takes about half an inch to stick to the roads to call off school. (Just in case anyone wondered, the faculty at the schools hope for snow days just as much, if not more, than the students do.)

Hee. I never shovel. I have a snowblower thingmie for if it's too deep for the broom, but that's it. My mother despairs and wonders how she ever got such a lazy child. She's out there shoveling as soon as there are three flakes on the ground. I don't even broom unless it's deeper than my shoes.

*accepts helmet* I thought there might be massive 'cicles when I got home tonight, cause it warmed up some, but no. So I'm safe for the time being.

*shares pretty*

I guess I didn't realize it doesn't snow much where you are. *ponders* I think it's worse when you have those really cold temps but no snow. Makes for dangerous, icy conditions if there's the least bit of wet. Luckily I don't mind driving in the snow, but ice does scare me.

Hee. I remember sitting by the radio when I was a kid, waiting for them to call school off or have a delay. But where I'm from originally, they do it by school district. When I first came to WV I was completely puzzled at them calling off school for the whole county!!

We don't get a lot of snow because the wind and air off of the ocean usually keeps things either blown farther to the west, which causes us to miss the bad weather, or too warm for things to freeze. However, when we do get wintry precipitation, it will be snow over night which will melt in the day and re-freeze at night as ice. I agree that ice scares me too because there isn't anything that you can do on ice as far as driving. At least with snow you can get traction. No such luck with ice. However, it doesn't look like we are getting much of anything this winter because we are in a drought situation and haven't been getting enough moisture of any kind.

"When I first came to WV I was completely puzzled at them calling off school for the whole county!!" My guess is that you had more people in your old school districts than you have now in the county where you live. Around here, they will close all of the schools in a city because we don't have counties, except for the more rural parts. I work in a different city than where I live, and my work-city tends to get more snow, so I might get the day off from work but not be snowed in at my home because my home-city didn't get as much accumulation. I like those days.
