Happy New Year to my f-listies for whom it is already tomorrow!

Here's a bit of navel-gazing regarding 2008 under

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Went to Chicago by myself to attend a fan convention where I didn’t know a soul. Now, this might not seem like much, but considering I used to not be able to go to the grocery store without having a panic attack, believe me, it’s a BIG deal

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn’t really make resolutions, as such. But for the most part, I believe I succeeded in doing more of what I wanted to do and less of what I didn’t. And I have some goals for 2009, so yes.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My cousin had a boy, Andrew, on my birthday which was kinda cool. And Lizzie had Conlan, who I adore.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No *knocks wood*

5. What countries did you visit?
Only the US this year. But I went all over, does that count? LA, Kentucky, Maryland shore, Chicago, Ohio

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008? A love life :p

7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I can’t really think of any one particular date. Not where the date itself will stick in my head.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I’ve been working on not sweating the small stuff. Life is too short to worry about crap that isn’t important.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Budgeting/finances

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
No more than usual

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My laptop stand, which has saved my shoulder and alleviated the pinched nerve in my arm

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My friend who seems to finally, FINALLY be over her cheating dog of an ex-husband

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
In real life, my friend who is having what I would call an early mid-life crisis. Drugs, cheating on husband, etc. It makes me very sad.
Fandom-wise, there are still some people out there who scare the living daylights out of me; they live in these fantasy worlds where the object of their fannish affection is obsessed with them.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Travel! The very best way to spend money, in my opinion

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Meeting Steve Carlson.

16. What song will always remind you of 2008? I dunno. I have a hard time picking just one song for anything. My taste is too varied.

17. Compared to this time last year, you are:
i. happier or sadder? Happier
ii. thinner or fatter? The same, I think
iii. richer or poorer? Materially-about the same. Emotionally-much richer

18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Photography. I used to be the girl with the camera in her hand all the time and I’ve gotten away from that. I miss it.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Worrying (I’m a bit of a worrywart and tend to worry things to death)

20. How will you be spending New Years? Sleeping. I’m not really a NYE kinda girl.

21. What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in 2008? Oh I’m sure tripping and falling. Because I do it all the time, so I’m sure it happened more than once. And almost always when I’m wearing a dress, go figure. But not heels, so I can’t even blame it on that.

22. Did you fall in love in 2008? Sadly, no.

23. How many one-night stands? I’ve only done it once in my entire life and it was singularly uninspiring, so not really my cuppa. So in answer to the question, 0.

24. What was your favorite TV program? Supernatural

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I attempt not to hate people, only things and actions. But the same actions and behaviors I hated at this time last year are still firmly hated this year.

26. What was the best book you read?
I normally read mysteries or romance. The book I’m reading now, ‘The Pagan Stone’ by Nora Roberts is really good.
Outside my usual genres, the best book I read was Melusine by Sarah Monette.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Steve Carlson, Christian Kane, Jason Manns. Completely different styles, but I discovered them as a ‘set’ since they are friends.

28. What did you want and get?
A Flip video camera

29. What did you want and not get?
A winning lottery ticket! Ha, I suppose lots of things, but nothing important.

30. What was your favorite film of this year? I honestly don’t think I went to the movies at all this year. I did like ‘Atonement’, which I saw on DVD.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I was 40 and I’m sure I didn’t do anything special. Probably went out to dinner.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Here we go with the love life again. Either that or more time to spend with my friends.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008? Clean. Comfy.

34. What kept you sane? Writing. Writing has kept me sane even in the depths of despair.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Norman Reedus

36. What political issue stirred you the most? The election of Barack Obama. I had doubts about whether enough people could see past the propaganda and choose him. I was pleasantly surprised.

37. Who did you miss?
I don’t think we ever stop missing anyone we’ve lost.

38. Who was the best new person you met? Rose, cause she’s awesome!

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
That new friends can be found whenever you open yourself up to looking for the,

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
“If it ain’t easy, it ain’t worth takin’
If you got a good thing, well it best be shakin’”

Have a safe and happy new year's eve, people. See you in 2009!
